Stan Van Gundy says he was not offered G.S. job

New Detroit Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy joined the show to talk about why he took the job and more. Here are some of his takes:

— Van Gundy said that he had talked to Golden State but was not offered the job. He said that once he met with Pistons owners Tom Gores he was primarily focused on that job.

— Van Gundy thinks that being in the public eye as a broadcaster does help coaching candidates. Van Gundy noted Steve Kerr was a hot candidate despite not having coached – “you get to hear him speak intelligently about the game.”

— Dan asked Van Gundy if his brother Jeff was going to coach. Stan said that he’s waiting for a great situation and those are hard to find in the NBA. “I think he’s in the exact same siatuion I was,” Van Gundy said. “I think there are a lot of bad jobs in the NBA right now where there’s a disconnect between the owenrs and the coaches.”

— Van Gundy is at the NBA Scouting Combine. He said what you see on the court is not very valuable. But that the interviews can be useful.
