Joe Torre discusses his new role with MLB
New MLB executive Joe Torre joined the show to talk about life after managing.
Dan asked Torre the last time he wasn’t preparing for a season in the Spring. “I guess you have to go all the way back to 1959 or something crazy like that,” Torre said.
Torre said that he isn’t missing managing. He said he was excited to stay in the business, but not have to put on his “play clothes.”
Torre tried to explain his executive vice president job. He said he’s basically in charge of the minor leagues and a liason to managers.
Torre said one of his goals is to support the umpires and let them know they’re a big part of the game.
Torre said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has called him and asked for advice. “Donnie is such an open individual. That’s why I think he’s on his way to a long career as a manager,” Torre said.
