Nolan Smith on Irving, player of year, NBA

Nolan SmithDuke guard Nolan Smith joined the show to talk about the ACC Tournament and the Big Dance.

Dan asked Smith if Kyrie Irving will play again. “He’s been working really hard,” Smith said. “I think there’s still no call on it. He’s not back running or playing yet.”

Dan asked Nolan his player of the year. Smith pointed to Jimmer Fredette and Kimba Walker. He said Jared Sullinger was great, but he leans toward the big guys.

Dan asked if he had the green light like Fredette, how many could he score? “That green light is ridiculous,” Smith said. He thinks it’d be a different story and he’d put in a lot more points.

Smith said that he’s glad he stayed at Duke for four years, compared to his former high school teammate Michael Beasley, who is now a veteran in the NBA. Smith said that he’s excited to take the next step and go to the NBA.

Interestingly, Smith said that the Blue Devils don’t get heckled as badly any more.
