Charles Barkley on Big East, one-and-done, Carmelo trade
Charles Barkley joined the show to talk about the NCAA Tournament. Here are some of his takes …
— Barkley said UConn being in the title game proves that he was right about the Big East. He said the Huskies were the only team in the conference with a great player, and the rest of the teams were mediocre.
— Barkley said he hates the one-and-done. “I did not see one player on Kentucky that was ready to play in the NBA,” Barkley said.
Barkley said no player is good enough to be a one-and-done. Dan asked about Kyrie Irving. “Not even close,” Barkley said. “I saw nothing that made me thing he’s ready for the NBA.”
— Barkley said “one-and-done” is bad for the pros. “It’s ruining the NBA,” Barkley said. “The draft is designed for bad teams to get better. Not to draft someone who’s going to be good in five years. We have a lot of bad teams.”
— Barkley said that the Knicks never should have made the Carmelo Anthony trade. They were small and couldn’t defend — so they get a guy who can’t play D. “He is not a franchise player,” Barkley said of Anthony.
— Barkley also said that he thinks Dikembe Mutombo is currently 62.
