Ryan Leaf talks about why his NFL career didn’t pan out

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf joined the show to talk about his career and what lessons can be learned from it.

Leaf talked about what went wrong when he got drafted No. 2 overall in 1998. “I was a very entitled spoiled athlete at that time,” Leaf said. “I think being drafted later would have been a benefit. The best thing I should I have done is stay in school one more year.”

Leaf said that teams are too scared of letting the great one go by, so they almost have to take Cam Newton No. 1. He pointed to how painful it must be for Portland to watch Kevin Durant become a star.

Leaf also talked about Ryan Mallett. He said players today are better prepared for the scrutiny of the pros. And he thinks Mallett will be very successful.

Leaf also talked about his addiction to pain killers. He said when he was a college golf coach a few years ago he would ask his kids to give him their painkillers if they had any.
