Mitch Williams on hot pitching, radar guns and Indians’ success

MLB Network analyst Mitch Williams joined the show to talk about the big storylines in baseball.

Williams said the reason pitching is up is because the weather has been so bad. He said that when a batter hits it off the end of his bat it hurts all the way up and down his body.

Williams also maintained that radar guns are jacked up and guys are not throwing any faster than they used to. He said Aroldis Champan would hit 97 on an old gun, not 106. “Nolan Ryan to this day is still the hardest thrower I’ve ever seen,” Williams said.

Williams weighed in on the Cleveland Indians’ surprising start. He said that the Indians’ offense is legit. But he’s not buying into the pitching staff until they get around the league twice. When hitters get a second look at these pitchers, it’s hard to believe they’re that good.
