Hines Ward on lockout, NFL’s inconsistent stance on safety

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and Dancing With the Stars champ Hines Ward joined the show to talk about his eventful offseason.

Ward said that he’s thinner but not in football shape by any means after training for the show. He said he couldn’t play a regular season game right now. And he just had some minor surgery.

Ward said missing offseason workouts isn’t a big deal for the veterans, but the young players may be affected. “We don’t like OTAs anyway,” Ward said. “I’m more concerned for the first- and second-year guys. Especially the rookies. They don’t know what it takes to get through an NFL season.”

Ward commented on the NFL’s emphasis on safety. He said that they’re worried about concussions, but they want to add two games. He said that would shorten a lot of careers. Ward said players are puzzled by the league’s stance.

Ward also weighed in on college players getting paid. He thinks that players deserve something. He suggests every player gets the same amount.
