Spurrier says he expects QB Garcia to be more focused

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier joined the show to talk about the upcoming season.

Spurrier said last year’s SEC East title was a little deceiving because other teams in the division were down. He said they were up and down last season and he hopes the Gamecocks are better this year.

Spurrier said that quarterback Stephen Garcia is more serious this year and he expects good things. He said it’s good that Garcia has so many good players around him.

Spurrier had some interesting comments on quarterbacks in general. He said throwing ability isn’t everything. He said leadership is a big part of it. And QBs like Cam Newton can run for success.

Spurrier also explained why he banned Twitter. He said that some of his guys did some nasty things on Twitter during the offseason.

Spurrier talked about recruiting edges as well. He said that he’s not worried about the Texas network because it’s so far away. But he did have a problem when ESPN did some stuff with Alabama.
