Bobby Bowden says he hid cancer for recruiting purposes; FSU could have joined SEC in ’92

Former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden joined the show to talk about being diagnosed with Prostate cancer in 2007.

Bowden said his doctor helped keep it quiet so it didn’t affect recruiting. “You can imagine me trying to get a kid go to Florida State and one of our opponents saying he’s 77 and he’s got cancer,” Bowden said.

Bowden had interesting comments on conference realignment. He said that Florida State could have joined the SEC in 1992. “We could have joined the ACC, the SEC or the Big East,” Bowden said.

Bowden said this is a huge game for Florida State and the thinks the Seminoles have a shot because the game is in Tallahassee.

Bowden said it was interesting, he never had any symptoms. He said he felt great all along.

Bowden is trying to urge people to get checked for Prostate Cancer and is working with Ontheline.com.
