Tony Stewart said he wasn’t worried about falling behind early

Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart joined the show to talk about his dramatic victory yesterday.

Stewart had a mechanical problem and was pushed back to 40. But he wasn’t worried.

“As early as our drama started, it wasn’t a scenario where all hope was lost,” Stewart said. “I didn’t understand originally what the damage was to the grill. I never felt the impact. When they explained to me what happened, we had a lot of time during the caution to get the repair.”

Dan asked if this was the best race he’s had. “I think it’s one of the best drives we’ve ever had,” Stewart said. “We battled some sort of adversity three different times.”

Stewart said that Edwards told him to make sure he had fun with the Cup afterward. And Edwards told him he hoped it came down to the two of them again next year. Stewart said Edwards was a “straight-up guy.”

Stewart said he knew Dan wanted part of the car for the ManCave. They’ve worked out a tentative deal involving a swimsuit model and a wheel. Dan also wants the big check they get.
