Curtis Granderson has no problem with Justin Verlander winning AL MVP

New York Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson joined the show to talk about coming up short in the MVP race and more.

Granderson said he had no problem with Justin Verlander winning the AL MVP. He thinks Verlander did a lot to help Detroit make it to the World Series and beat the Yankees in the playoffs.

Dan asked Granderson what’s the difference between hitting a 95 mph and a 100 mph pitch.   “One hundred you get lucky,” Granderson said. He said you have to time it out and jump. Granderson said Verlander is so hard because he goes up to 100 and then goes well below that speed.

Dan asked Granderson what it was like going from Detroit to the Yankees. He said that you get more respect for being on a good team when you’re in pinstripes. But Granderson pointed out that his Tigers team was good too — they had been to the postseason twice.

Dan asked if anyone calls him “Grandy Man” like Yankees broadcaster John Sterling does. “In the baseball world, everyone calls me ‘Grandy,'” Granderson said. He did say people come up to him and sing Sterling’s “The Grandy Man can” song.

You can check out Granderson’s new book “All you can be,” which gives advice to young people on how to stay out of trouble.
