Mike Krzyzewski talks about being co-SI Sportsman of the Year with Pat Summitt

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski joined the show to discuss what it means to be named along with Pat Summitt as Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.

Dan asked Krzyzewski what it meant to him to be Sportsman of the Year. “No matter how good you think you are, you’re never better than the game,” Coach K said.

Coach K said that being a sportsman also means doing something with your platform outside of sports.

Dan joked with Coach K and asked if he was worried the loss to Ohio State would have cost him winning the award. Kryzewski said that losing gracefully is also part of being a sportsman.

Dan asked Coach K how he wants to leave his position. Coach K said that he changed his style in the mid-1990s because he had health problems. Now he’s more even-keeled, and just concerned about leaving the program in good shape.
