Andy Staples says Big East’s additions underwhelming; BCS likely to add plus-one

SI.com college football writer Andy Staples joined the show to talk about conference realignment and more.

Staples said that the Big East’s additions won’t be enough to keep automatic qualifying status if such a thing exists in the future. Staples said that now they’re Conference USA in 2004.

Staples thinks when the new BCS system comes into play in a couple of years, it will get rid of the automatic qualifying system.

Staples also said that he thinks a Plus-one system is coming soon to college football. He said conferences are getting behind it.

Staples said that there could be a split champion this year in the AP poll if LSU loses. Staples pointed out LSU won in Alabama, which is tougher than winning on a neutral field.
