Bob Kravitz shares behind-scenes details on Peyton Manning

Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz joined the show to talk about his story on Peyton Manning and Colts owner Jim Irsay.

Kravitz said that he didn’t think Peyton was sending out a message in an interview on Monday night.

“I really didn’t get the feel on Monday night that he was politicking,” Kravitz said. “I didn’t think he was talking too out of school.”

Kravitz said that there’s more to the story. “This has not always been a wonderful relationship,” Kravitz said. “I do think that there has been some tension between Peyton and the organization over the years.”

Kravitz said that Peyton has needed time to realize the truth of the situation. “I think this has been a done deal since the moment they became 0-13 and [realized they’d] have the No. 1 pick,” Kravitz said. “I think he’s coming to terms with the reality that not only is he not going to be back here, but he’d be better off not being here.”

Kravitz said that the Colts won’t be able to afford to pay all of the good veterans anyway.

Kravitz said that Peyton called him on Thursday night and his first thought was, “Glad I didn’t have my third beer.” Kravitz said Peyton sounded perplexed when he talked to him.
