Tony Dungy on Eli’s legacy, Super Bowl officiating, Peyton’s future and NFL parity

NBC NFL analyst Tony Dungy joined guest host Glenn Ordway to talk about the Super Bowl and more. Here are some of his takes:

— Dungy said he was surprised how much pressure the Patriots got on Eli Manning.

— Dungy said that he was stunned by Eli Manning’s fourth-quarter performance. Dungy said Eli had stretches were he didn’t dominate but he was very good in crunch time.

— Dungy said the parity in the NFL has a lot to do with the rules. If you can pass and rush the passer, you can win even if you’re not a complete team.

— Dungy said that the Eagles could have done the same thing as the Giants if they had gotten in.

— Dungy agreed with Ordway that officials are hesitant to call big penalties in a game this big. “Officials do not want to decide the game,” Dungy said.

— Dungy said that the Peyton Manning controversy is tearing apart Jim Irsay. He thinks that the Colts don’t have a firm grasp on Peyton’s health. “I now can conceive him playing in another uniform,” Dungy said.
