Tony Dungy on bounties, his recent coversation with Peyton Manning

NBC NFL analyst Tony Dungy joined the show to talk about the New Orleans Saints’ bounty system and more.

Dungy once told Dan that the hit that started Peyton Manning’s health problems came against the Redskins when Gregg Williams was the defensive coordinator. Dan asked Dungy if he thought that hit was intentional. “It never occurred to me,” Dungy said. “Then you start putting two and two togehter. Seeing [former Redskin] Philip Daniels’ comments, it makes you think. … I think it should have been a penalty. I don’t think it was intentional. But you can’t read into a person’s actions.”

Dan also asked Dungy if Peyton Manning has any chance of going back to Indianapolis. “I think there is a chance,” Dungy said. “I hope it happens. I think that’s where he should finish his career.

But Dungy agreed with Peter King’s comments earlier on the show, that it was close to a 10 percent chance that Peyton will return to Indy.

Dan asked Dungy if there is a perfect fit out there for him. “I don’t know if there is a perfect fit,” Dungy said. “That’s part of the problem.”

Dungy said that he talked with Peyton within the last few weeks. Dungy said he really wants to play. Dungy said he’s “battling with this” when it comes to where he’ll play next year. Dungy said he advised him to look at the potential of a team differently than you may think. Dungy cited last season’s 49ers, who exceeded everyone’s expectations.
