Shaka Smart talks about new expectations for VCU
VCU coach Shaka Smart joined the show to talk about the NCAA Tournament and more.
Smart said that mid-majors face pressures that the big-conference teams don’t have.
“For us, there’s such a small margin of error,” Smart said. “If you slip up, it can really cost you dearly.”
Smart said the pressure then gets off the mid-majors by the time the Big Dance starts. Smart said that’s why there were so loose on their Final Four run last year.
Smart, however, said they’re not going to sneak up on anyone. “More people will pick us,” Smart said.
Dan asked why he stayed at VCU after all his success last season. “Because I love it here,” Smart said. “Someone said you shouldn’t run away from happiness.”
