Austin Rivers explains why he’s going to NBA, discusses possibility of playing for his father

Former Duke guard Austin Rivers joined the show to talk about his decision to go to the NBA after one year as a Blue Devil.

Rivers said that his father Doc Rivers and Coach K both supported his decision to go to the NBA. Rivers said that he doesn’t think players should be criticized for leaving, because by the time they get to college, they should be responsible for their own destiny.

Austin said it would be exciting to play for his father in Boston if that happened. “It would have to be one of those things where it’s off the court, it’s father-son,” Rivers said. “If it’s on the court, it’s strictly business.”

Austin said that he could beat his father in one-on-one in ninth grade. Dan asked if he dunked on him. “My dad wouldn’t let me dunk on him,” Rivers said. “He’d foul me.”
