Jerry West thinks claims Warriors are tanking is ‘offensive’
Hall of Famer and Golden State Warriors consultant Jerry West joined the show to talk about the big stories around the NBA and more.
Dan asked West what he thinks of claims the Warriors are tanking to get a better draft pick. “Frankly, it’s offensive,” West said. “I would never be part of something like that. The people who write that … it’s insulting. These players are hurt.”
West weighed in on the favorites to win the title. “I think there are seven teams that could conceivably win the championship,” West said. “It’s as wide open as I’ve ever seen.”
West talked about how important chemistry is for teams. He looked at the way the Celtics are with the ball in Rajon Rondo’s hands. It works, because Rondo doesn’t want to shoot. Meanwhile, with the Heat, both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are taken out of their game a bit.
Dan asked West who he would take — Andrew Bynum or Dwight Howard? West said Bynum is the most skilled low-post player in the in the NBA. He thinks Bynum is ahead of Howard offensively. But he thinks Howard is incredibly quick around the basket. He said it depends what your team needs. “Would you rather have Chamberlain or Russell? Would you rather Jabbar or Shaquille O’Neal?”
