Scott Hastings on Lakers-Nuggets series, why Carmelo struggled at first in N.Y.

Denver Nuggets analyst Scott Hastings joined the show to talk about the Lakers-Nuggets series.

Hastings was critical of Lakers big man Pau Gasol for his poor performance in Game 6. “The modern day pro athlete that doesn’t play like it’s life or death doesn’t make sense to me,” Hastings said.

Hastings commented on Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson’s big game last night. He said that if Lawson can play like that in Game 7, they’ll certainly be in the game.

Hastings said that the Nuggets are trying to push the tempo against the Lakers, but the key is being able to do it for four quarters. “You can’t run if you’re always taking the basketball out of the net,” Hastings said. “L.A. has been good on the offensive glass. Denver has to have a good rebounding game.”

Hastings offered  his take on former Nugget Carmelo Anthony. “The key is not the guy, but the system [and how] it fits the guy,” Hastings said. He said that fans in Denver knew Anthony wouldn’t work in Mike D’Antoni’s system with the Knicks
