Jack McCallum looks back at Dream Team
Sports Illustrated writer Jack McCallum joined guest host Chris Mannix to talk about his new book on the Dream Team and the NBA Finals.
McCallum talked about interviewing everyone on the Dream Team. He said it was hard to track down Michael, Larry and Magic, but he got them and they were good. McCallum said he had a lot of trouble hooking up with Christian Laettner.
“I was astonished how all these guys remembered this as one of the pivotal moments in their careers,” McCallum said.
McCallum talked about finding a tape of this infamous scrimmage in Monte Carlo. Apparently, someone with the team taped it and it was a true classic.
McCallum said Chuck Daly regretted never getting Isiah Thomas on the Dream Team. “Too many guys did not want Isiah on that team,” McCallum. He said when John Stockton went down, they looked at adding another player. McCallum said that they would have added Joe Dumars if anyone.
Regarding this year’s Finals, McCallum likes the Thunder because their big two has more help with young legs.
