Bobby Bowden talks about passing Joe Paterno on all-time win list

Former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden joined the show to talk about becoming the winningest coach in Division I college football history.

Bowden said that there was no way he could celebrate passing Joe Paterno on the list.

Bowden said he wasn’t sure that the NCAA would get involved because it was a criminal matter. But he did say that there has been an emphasis on institutional control of late.

Bowden had some of his wins vacated as well, and was upset at the time because they took away a good fight between him and Paterno.

Bowden tried to put the scandal into perspective. “Nothing matters more than what’s happening up there. … All this other stuff is trivial compared to that. What’s a statistic in football compared to that?”

Bowden said that he had hoped reports would reveal that Paterno didn’t know what was happening, but he thinks the Freeh report disproved that. Bowden said he wrote a letter to Paterno after he was fired.

Bowden said he hates to see other schools poach Penn State players.
