Harold Reynolds weighs in on Ichiro trade, Hamels contract

MLB Network host Harold Reynolds joined guest host Bonnie Bernstein to talk about the big stories around baseball.

Reynolds was in the locker room when the Ichiro deal went down.

Reynolds said that Ichiro didn’t talk a lot to his teammates, in part because he doesn’t speak English often. So his teammates didn’t necessarily know this kind of thing was coming.

Reynolds said Ichiro wasn’t getting good pitches in Seattle because you weren’t afraid of anyone in the lineup. “I think his offense is going to take off,” Reynolds said.

Reynolds also weighed in on Cole Hamels getting a six-year, $144 million deal with Philly. Reynolds said that Hamels was getting that money either now or in the offseason, so the Phillies made it happen now.

Reynolds thinks Hanley Ramirez will be happier in Los Angeles than he was in Miami. “Hanley is a superstar player and I think he’ll return to his form,” Reynolds said.
