Jason La Canfora says don’t count out Saints
CBS’ Jason La Canfora joined the show to talk about the big stories as training camp opens around the nation. Here are some of his takes:
— La Canfora said Joe Vitt is going to run the New Orleans Saints. But he is out six games. La Canfora said that they haven’t decided who will run the show for that period.
La Canfora thinks that an “us-against-the-world mentality” could carry the Saints through the early part of the season. And he thinks the Saints improved their personnel this offseason. La Canfora said they’ll be in the thick of things in the NFC.
— La Canfora said that the ‘Skins will try to get Robert Griffin III out in space and use his mobility. “That’s what attracted them to him so much,” La Canfora said. He said the key is protection, because RGIII isn’t as big as a quarterback like Andrew Luck. La Canfora also pointed out all the big-time pass-rushers in the NFC East, like DeMarcus Ware, Jason Babin, Trent Cole and the Giants’ stars.
— La Canfora commented on Steelers’ wide receiver Mike Wallace. “I believe it gets done,” La Canfora said, noting there’s often a hometown discount in Pittsburgh because the team is worshipped there and they win.
— La Canfora doesn’t think Maurice Jones-Drew will be there at the beginning of camp and that will be an interesting referendum on new ownership.
