Scott Pioli comments on Peyton Manning, returning injured players

Kansas City Chiefs GM Scott Pioli joined guest host Mike Florio to talk about his offseason and the state of the team.

Pioli talked about some of his injured players, like RB Jamal Charles and Eric Berry, and how the team actually has to slow them down, because they won’t admit anything about health issues.

Pioli commented on Peyton Manning landing in Denver. “We did reach out to Peyton and his people,
Pioli said. “I just wished he hadn’t ended up in the division.”

Pioli said his starter Matt Cassel didn’t have a problem with the team going after Peyton. Pioli said Cassel has been with him from the beginning of his career and knows Pioli will always try to make the team better or improve the competition at spots.

Cassel said backup quarterback Ricky Stanzi has been very good in the offseason and is in a battle with Brady Quinn for the No. 2 spot. But Pioli thinks Stanzi has a chance to be a starter in the NFL.

Pioli said he hasn’t set an expectation for when holding out wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and wanted to be careful to make sure he didn’t appear to be making a comment to gain leverage in the negotiation.
