Al Michaels weighs in on Cowboys-Giants, Broncos-Steelers, reminisces about Howard Cosell

Broadcaster Al Michaels joined the show to talk about covering the Olympics with Dan and more.

Michaels talked about covering the Giants-Cowboys game he’ll open the season with. Dan asked which team had higher expectations. Michaels said the expectations aren’t that high for the Giants. But for the Cowboys, they’re always high, regardless of what is going on.

“The one thing we know about the Cowboys,” Michaels said, “they’re the most fascinating team to watch. You either love them or you hate them. There’s a lot of emotion around them.”

Michaels follows that up with Denver against Pittsburgh. Michaels said they probably would have done this game even if the Broncos had kept Tebow because it’s a rematch of the playoffs.

Michaels also talked about his experience with Howard Cosell. “He was one of the few people who would … as he liked to say … tell it like it is,” Michaels said. But Michaels said that Cosell did have his favorites, giving the example of him not ripping Raiders owner Al Davis.

Michaels confirmed that he’ll get four hours with the Stanley Cup in the next few weeks.
