Don Mattingly breaks down playoffs, weighs in on Yankees pulling A-Rod

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly joined the show to talk about the MLB Playoffs.

Mattingly weighed in Yankees manager Joe Girardi pulling Alex Rodriguez for Raul Ibanez last night. “It’s a tough call, but you have to make the call that you think gives your team the best chance to win,” Girardi said.

But Mattingly had nice things to say about A-Rod. “I thought Alex was a good teammate,” Mattingly said.

Mattingly also weighed in on the Nationals. He wouldn’t rip them for sitting Stephen Strasburg. Mattingly said they play the game the right way. “They’re doing what they think is best for their franchise,” Mattingly said.

Mattingly talked about the Giants-Reds series.   “The Giants are tough,” Mattingly said. “They play in a tough environment. They’re a club fit for the playoffs where it’s a little bit tough and a little bit nasty.”

Mattingly talked about his own team and thinks the deals they made this year will help them tremendously next season. “There’s no reason we shouldn’t win the West,” Mattingly said.
