Matt Barkley update health status, says he's confident he can be top-10 NFL pick
USC quarterback Matt Barkley dropped by the ManCave to talk about his season and his NFL future.
Barkley talked about his should injury. Dan asked if he had to play this weekend, could he? “No, I couldn’t,” Barkley said. “I cant even say when an actual date I’ll be healthy.”
Barkley said he will try to play in the Sun Bowl. He said if it’s close and there’s a risk to long-term arm strength, he’d likely sit out.
Dan asked at what point did you realize the dream season they expected wasn’t going to happen. He said after the loss to Stanford, he realized things would go differently. But he said that he didn’t listen to anyone but his teammates.
“I think the media expected us to win by 50 points every single game,” Barkley said.
Dan asked Barkley his confidence level. “High,” Barkley said. “I’m 100 percent confident in my abilities, going into the bowl game and going into the NFL.”
Dan asked if he thinks he’s a top-10 draft pick. “No doubt,” Barkley said that. He said he learned a lot in four years at USC.
Dan asked the best team he faced. “Oregon,” Barkley said. “Their offense against us was unbelievable. It was incredible.”
Barkley weighed in on the Heisman race. He credited Marqise Lee and Manti T’eo. But most of all, he pointed to another quarterback. “If you look at Johnny Manziel’s numbers, they’re unbelievable,” Barkley said.
