Joe Montana explains how shorter QBs can thrive in NFL

Hall of Famer Joe Montana joined the show to talk about the big stories in the NFL and more.

Montana explained how a shorter quarterback, like Johnny Manziel, can make it in the NFL. “Sometimes it’s just [the quarterback] getting out of the pocket,” Montana said, “and finding a spot you can deliver the ball.”

Dan asked Montana if he is bothered when people say he was a system quarterback.

“No, because I have four of those system rings,” Montana said.

Montana, a Pennsylvania native, said that he wanted to go to Pittsburgh after San Francisco. But they didn’t want him. He said that he was happy in Kansas City, who had a good team.

Montana weighed in on the current 49ers quarterback situation. He said that today’s QB controversy is different then when they were choosing between him and Steve Young. Montana said he was out for about a year and a half, whereas Alex Smith missed a week.
