Chipper Jones said multiple teams reached out, but he’s not coming back

Retired baseball player Chipper Jones joined the show to talk about why he walked away from the game and recent reports the Yankees reached out to him.

Jones said that he’s heard personally from three teams, and his agent has been contacted to more clubs. He said the Yankees were one of the team that “probably” talked to his agent.

Dan asked Jones if he could still play this season. “From a skill set standpoint, I could,” Jones said. “From an ability to walk my crippled butt out there ever day, I doubt it.” Chipper said he could probably play 75-100 games, but that puts a lot of pressure on his teammates.

Jones talked about steroids and how he was never linked to them. He said he never came under suspicion because his body type never changed. He said that there was plenty of temptation when he was young. “I’d be lying to say I didn’t think about it,” Jones said, “but I never acted upon it.”

Jones talked about retirement and said he likes to play golf. But he won’t play with John Smoltz and Greg Maddux. He said it’s not fun because they’re too good.
