Kevin Johnson makes case for keeping Kings in Sacramento
Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson joined the show to talk about trying to keep the Kings.
Johnson said he talks to the Maloofs, who own the Kings and appear to want to move the team to Settle, all the time. “Believe it or not, I have a good relationship with them,” Johnson said. He said that he understands they want to make money and that he wants that too.
Johnson argued that Sacramento has been a model city for the NBA and has traditionally outdrawn Seattle.
Johnson said that it would be “unprecedented” to move an NBA team when a community that has done everything it can for the team.
Johnson said he has no problem with Seattle as an NBA city. “I think they deserve a team … just not our team,” Johnson said.
Johnson also told a funny story about playing Michael Jordan in the NBA Finals and M.J.’s trash-talking skills.
