Steve Sands talks about reaction in room to Sergio Garcia comments

Golf Channel’s Steve Sands joined the show to talk about his question to Sergio Garcia about whether he’d have Tiger Woods over for dinner. Garcia responded that he would serve him “fried chicken,” which ignited a major controversy.

Sands said that the event he was light-hearted and everyone was saying funny things. Sands had a conversation with a friend of Garcia and found out they were renting a house for the U.S. Open. So Sands asked if Garcia was going to invite Garcia over for dinner.

Sands described the reaction to the room after Garcia uttered the line about friend chicken.

“Half nervous laughter, half nervous gasping,” Sands said.

Sands said that the European crowd reacted a bit differently than they might of in America because of lack of awareness.

Sands said that Garcia had not been drinking and people don’t get crazy at that event. “It’s too elegant of an evening,” Sands said.
