Stan Van Gundy said veteran refs could eliminate flopping if NBA let them

NBC’s Stan Van Gundy joined the show to help break down the NBA playoffs.

Van Gundy said refs are pressured to make calls by the League grading system and that’s one of the reasons they don’t eliminate flopping. “Those veteran refs would take care of it in a heartbeat if the League said take care of it,” Van Gundy said.

Van Gundy said the key for the Heat to win this series is to contain the Pacers inside and on the glass. “Chris Bosh can’t average three rebounds a game,” Bosh said. “Chris Bosh has been a good rebounder in his career.”

Van Gundy said that he doesn’t think Dwyane Wade is a dirty player. He said Wade has flopped, but he never thought of him as a dirty player.

Dan asked Van Gundy our poll question from last week — would you rather have Joakim Noah or Dwight Howard?

“I’m gonna take Dwight Howard over every big man in this league,” Van Gundy said, “and I think 30 general managers would agree with me. … He’s still the most talented big man in this League.”
