Steve Nash on why he didn’t sign with Heat, future in L.A.

Lakers guard Steve Nash joined the show to talk about last season’s issue in Los Angeles and his future.

Dan asked Nash how seriously he considered joining the Heat. “I knew that would be a great option basketball-wise,” Nash said, “but I ended up making the decision to be close to my kids, who are in Phoenix.”

Nash also said the Heat only made him a one-year offer. He said Toronto, New York and the Lakers offered him three-year deals.

Nash said that last season was marred by his health problems. But he’s hopeful for the future in L.A. “Having a training camp together,” Nash said, “good things could happen.”

Nash said he hopes Dwight Howard comes back to Los Angeles. “He’s just one of those guys who draws so much attention and it always seems to come out wrong,” Nash said. “I’d like to hear from Dwight what he’s thinking. Because what he’s thinking and what is portrayed in the media isn’t always the same thing.”

Dan asked Nash about entering the League on the same team as Jason Kidd and Kevin Johnson. Nash said K.J. pulled him aside and said he’s as good as any player he’s faced, and that gave him a lot of confidence.
