Chris Kluwe on why Vikes released him, and the NFL’s evolving stance on sexuality

Oakland Raiders punter Chris Kluwe dropped by the ManCave to talk about his new book “Beautifully Unique Sparkleponies.”

Dan asked Kluwe if he wasn’t outspoken, would he still be with the Vikings. Kluwe said he didn’t know. But he did say he was statistically the best punter the Vikings have ever had.

Dan asked Kluwe if he thinks he has played with a gay teammate. He said statistically, he almost definitely did.

Kluwe also explained that most young players don’t care as much about having a gay teammate. “The NFL is a young man’s game,” Kluwe said. “Their philosophy is why do I care. I have other things to worry about, like the economy. Real pressing issues that actually make a difference.”

Kluwe also talked about his other athletic skills. He said he has 8 tackles — same number as Jerry Rice. And he said if Tim Tebow was the standard for being a quarterback, he could probably be a quarterback as well.
