Manish Mehta said Jets likely to go with Geno Smith at QB for season
New York Daily News Jets reporter Manish Mehta (@MMehtaNYDN) joined the show to talk about Rex Ryan and the QB scenario.
Mehta thinks that they are probably strongly considering naming Geno Smith, the Week 1 starter, the starter for the entire season. “At this point that probably makes the most sense,” Mehta said. “I don’t see much sense in going back to Mark Sanchez if and when he’s healthy.”
Mehta said that if Smith and backup Brady Quinn pick up the offense, then they could release Sanchez.
Mehta explained why he criticized Ryan for going down to Clemson. He said going down so early for an 8:30 p.m. game made no sense. He said there was no need to tailgate for eight hours on cut-down day.
