Rick Stroud says Bucs should have traded Freeman last offseason

Tampa Bay Times reporter Rick Stroud joined the show to talk about the Bucs cutting Josh Freeman and more.

Stroud said that there are several reasons this didn’t work in Tampa for Freeman. “When you change systems, young guys can get caught in the wash,” Stroud said.

Stroud said that Freeman isn’t the type of quarterback Schianoe probably wanted. “He thrives best in chaos,” Stroud said. “He’s more like Ben Roethlisberger in that sense.”

Stroud said that both sides tried to make it work, but they probably should have traded him last offseason when he still had value.

Stroud said Schianoe’s tough guy style works when you’re winning, but makes a coach seems like a “maniac” when the team loses.

Stroud think it’s early to pull the chord on a coach in his second season, but the owners probably aren’t happy with all the empty seats so far this season.
