Mark Teixeira says teammates like Alex, don’t get into controversy
Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira joined the show to talk about the postseason and more.
Dan asked Teixeira if all the attention Alex Rodriguez gets makes things awkward in the clubhouse.
“It’s very tough for teammates of Alex,” Teixeira said, “to be objective about this. We like Alex. He’s a friend. He’s a mentor to a lot of the Latin players.”
But Teixeira said that A-Rod issues don’t affect the way they play. “Professional players have a very good way of tuning out all the distractions,” Teixeira said.
In fact, Teixeira said people don’t pay attention to the story at all. “The thing with the media and off the field [stuff], we have no idea what’s going on.”
Teixeira said he contacts A-Rod to offer support, but doesn’t get into it. He said he has friends going through divorce and other issues, but doesn’t call them up “and say hey man, what did your lawyer say?”
Dan asked if he had a choice between getting Joe Girardi or Robinson Cano back next year. “I love Joe,” Teixeira said, “but he’s not going to hit 30 home runs and [have] 100 RBIs.”
