Tony Dungy on USC, Colts’ Luck vs. Manning choice

NBC NFL analyst Tony Dungy joined the show to share details about getting a call from someone connected to the USC program, and to discuss Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning.

Dungy explained what happened with USC:  “This was a call from someone who was not part of the USC search committee but someone who was close to the situation. It wasn’t official. I talked to Pat Haden and definitely apologized for the whole thing. It wasn’t somebody that he had authorized and that’s the biggest thing. It was not a crank call and wasn’t part of this ongoing charade.”

Dungy also had very intersting comments on Luck vs. Manning: “If we had known Peyton was going to be totally healthy and play like this I know Jim Irsay would have made the decision and had I been there as head coach I would have seconded it to let’s go forward with Peyton and trade that number one pick for that same bonanza Cleveland was trying to give. Let’s get all that and get ourselves some receivers and some offensive linemen and go forward with Peyton for three more years.”

Dungy thinks Manning will be fired up for this game. “He’s going to want to come back and show what he can do no question about it,” Dungy said. “When I went back to Tampa we were 4-0 and you want to get to 5-0 and it’s all about the team but you can’t say it doesn’t mean a little more to you. You want to say OK you didn’t think I could do the job for you going forward. Here’s a look.”
