Tom Verducci says Cardinals’ power pitching an issue for Red Sox

Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci joined the show to talk about the World Series and more.

Verducci agreed with Dan that the game has changed. It’s smaller – it’s 90 feet at a time instead of counting on home run.

Verducci said the Red Sox have the edge in base running and fielding. While the Cardinals have a big edge in power pitching (getting guys out in the strike zone).

Verducci said that the Cardinals’ Michael Wacha is the real deal. “He reminds me in some ways of Verlander,” Verducci said. “This is not some fluky.”

Verducci weighed in on the chances Cal Ripken will manage. “Even since Cal retired, the job has gotten a lot bigger,” Verducci said. “People need to know Cal is 100 percent in.”
