Lane Kiffin says he hopes to have job soon, would take coordinator position
Former USC head coach Lane Kiffin joined the show to talk about Steve Sarkisian getting the Trojans job and his future in coaching.
Dan asked Kiffin if he would take an job as an offensive coordinator. “Sure,” Kiffin said. “You gotta look at what options there are. … I have no problem with that at all.”
Kiffin said he plans on having a job next year … hopefully soon he said. “Over the next week or two I have to figure out the best opportunity,” Kiffin said. “It’s a job. It’s not your entire life.”
Kiffin talked about how much support UCLA coach Jim Mora has given him. “Jim Mora has been a real stud through this whole thing,” Kiffin said.
Dan asked Kiffin if Mora will stay at UCLA or go to Washington. “It’s a tough call,” Kiffin said. “I know he loves both places.”
Dan asked Kiffin the last time he talked to Sarkisian. “Yesterday,” Kiffin said. “We were excited for him. We’re very close to him and his family.”
Kiffin said that the USC players have gone through a lot this year. “I’m just happy for those kids to know, it’s almost like another parent coming in,” Kiffin said.
Kiffin said he texted with Ed Orgeron yesterday. He said it’s been very difficult for Orgeron. Kiffin said Orgeron thought he should be the head coach.
Dan asked Kiffin if he thinks Orgeron did enough to earn the job. “That’s difficult,” Kiffin said. “I think Ed did enough to be right there in the running.”
Kiffin and Dan also discusses a past interview when he talked about Matt Barkley giving him a Christmas ornament. “We were on top of the world then,” Kiffin said, noting it seemed like a long time ago.
