NBC NFL analyst Tony Dungy joined the show to talk about the playoffs and much more.
Dan asked Dungy about the coaching vacancies. He said in the past he would have jumped at the Lions job, because he’s from there. And he said they have everything needed to win immediately.
Dungy also talked about Jay Cutler. Dan asked if he’d rather have Jay Cutler or Tony Romo. Dungy picked Cutler, because of the chemistry he has with the receivers in Chicago and because he’s a bit younger.
But Dungy isn’t sure either of those guys is truly elite. “I don’t see a Tom Brady there,” Dungy said, referring to the kind of quarterback who gives you a chance every year.
Dungy said Bengals QB Andy Dalton is in the same group with Cutler and Romo. Can have huge games but may not be able to do it in the crunch. “I’m hoping he plays well, but I’m not super-confident,” Dungy said.
Dungy weighed in on the Texas coaching situation. He thinks the Longhorns need a “rock star” who will energize the program. “They need someone to bring buzz back to the campus,” Dungy said.
Dungy weighed in on the top of the draft. He said that now durability has to be considered when you evaluate the top quarterbacks.
