James Franklin on pros and cons of Penn State job, why it’s his dream job
New Penn State coach James Franklin joined the show to talk about his job and more.
Dan asked about him taking recruits away from Vanderbilt. “My job now is do everything I can now to help Penn State be successful,” Franklin said. And he said that the coach is a big part of why these recruits make their choices.
Franklin said he’s good friends with Bill O’Brien (they worked together in Maryland) and the former PSU coach was honest about the job. Franklin said O’Brien told him that depth was a concern right now as they deal with sanctions.
Franklin commented on the Joe Paterno legacy. Franklin said he’s from the area and is a Penn State guy. He likes the tradition of the program. “I think the fact that I’m a Pennsylvania guy really helps,” Franklin said.
Franklin explained his statement that this was his “dream job.” He said the passion and pride for Penn State is unreal and he wants to be there as long as he can. Franklin said he had other programs looking at him and he chose this one.
