Chris Kluwe: Majority of players have no issue with Sam

Former NFL punter Chris Kluwe joined guest host Chris Mannix to talk about Michael Sam attempting to become the first openly gay NFL player.

Kluwe met with Sam before he made a public announcement. “I basically told him that vast majority of players you won’t have a problem with,” Kluwe said. “There will be some guys who don’t get it because there always are.”

Kluwe had an interesting take on the locker room reaction: “Locker rooms are composed of younger players. The blowback he’s going to get is from front office and coaching … those are older white men.”

Kluwe thinks this story will fade. “The NFL has survived Mike Vick, Tim Tebow, Aaron Hernandez and Riley Cooper,” Kluwe said. “Why would an openly gay player be this huge distraction that would bring the NFL to its knees. That’s ludicrous.”

Mannix asked which team would be a good fit for Sam. “The Patriots would be a good choice because they basically have a media embargo,” Kluwe said. He also thinks the Green Bay Packers would be a great fit because fans are so loyal to their team.  and the packers
