Mark Cuban discusses tanking, D-League expansion

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban joined the show to talk about teams tanking, his idea for better using the D-League and new commissioner Adam Silver.

“There are only so many ways you can build a team and through the Draft is one of them,” Cuban said.

Cuban said tanking can work if only one team is doing it, and maybe it can work if two or three teams try it. But if if six, seven or eight teams are tanking, they have to play each other and it falls apart.

Cuban had an idea: The teams with the worst three records can’t have one of the top three picks. You have to have the fourth worst record to be eligible for the top pick.

Cuban thinks the D-League is a better option for some prospective pros than college. He thinks the D-League is improving. And Cuban wants players who are under 21 are forced to take certain life skill classes or they won’t get paid.

Cuban said that he hasn’t considered buying a team lately, in large part because he has kids that are demanding his time.
