King: Vick could wind up with team like 49ers

TheMMQB.com’s Peter King (@SI_PeterKing) joined the show to preview the beginning of free agency in the NFL.

King had interesting comments on Michael Vick. “Vick was really disappointed that Minnesota re-signed Matt Cassell,” King said. “I think Michael really would have liked [to go there.]” King said he’ll draw some interest from the Jets, but he’ll want to know if he can compete with Geno Smith for the starting job. King thinks that if he can’t compete for a starting job, he may take a backup job with a team like the 49ers.

Overall, King said that the free agency period seems to be coming down to positions. “Two positions are set up to break the bank – offensive tackle and cornerback,” King said. He pointed to the Sam Shields contract with the Packers setting a very high market at CB. And he said Raiders OT Jared Veldheer will get a nice deal, likely with Arizona, and then the Rams’ Roger Saffold goes to Oakland.

King and Dan agree the Saints will regret losing running back Darren Sproles. “I don’t think he’s done,” King said. “He was impressive in the playoffs. … He still has some explosive plays in him.”
