Stan Van Gundy: Lakers in better shape than Knicks

NBC Sports’ Stan Van Gundy joined the show to talk about the big stories in the NBA.

Dan asked Stan which team is in better shape, the Knicks or Lakers. “I think I’d rather be the Lakers,” Van Gundy said. “At least they have some money to spend. … The Knicks have no money under the cap and no draft picks.”

Van Gundy doesn’t think that Phil Jackson could necessarily woo LeBron James or recruit good players. Van Gundy said that player more often go for the money: “If you’re going to talk a salary difference of 15 to 20 percent, most of us are going for money.”

Van Gundy did weigh in on the Lakers’ recent struggles.

“I thought the way they handled the whole coaching thing last year was a disaster,” Van Gundy said.
