Spurrier: Texans should take Clowney at No. 1

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier joined the show to talk about recent criticism of Jadeveon Clowney. Here are some of his takes.

— Spurrier noted that Clowney’s trajectory as a player is very different. “For most players to be the No. 1 pick,” said Spurrier, “they have to have a super junior season. He was already there. He had nowhere to go but down.”

— Spurrier said he understands why some people are critical of Clowney. “They watched the tape,” Clowney said. “He did miss a couple of games with minor injuries.

— Dan asked if the Houston Texans should take Clowney No. 1 overall. Spurrier said yes because the big quarterback, like Andrew Luck, wasn’t out there.

— Spurrier had interesting comments on why Tim Tebow didn’t thrive in the NFL. “I sort of think he’s the type of player you just have to go let play,” Spurrier said. “He’s better in a game than just throwing against air.” Spurrier said he was like Danny Wuerfel;. “We all got different DNA,” Spurrier said. “Some guys can just do it live.”
