John Smoltz on how to pitch with scuffed balls

MLB Network’s John Smoltz joined the show to talk about a wide range of issues relating to baseball.

Smoltz talked about the art of pitching and how important the mental aspect is. He said in 1991 he saw a sports psychologist because he had issues with management and didn’t play well. He said it was a part of his turnaround — but not the only thing.

Smoltz also talked about scuffed balls. He said that he used to throw away bad balls but then he learned the incredible value of a nicked-up ball. He said that he knew it would move to the opposite side of the scuff.

Smoltz also had a strong take on pitchers suffering all these injuries. He thinks it has a lot to do with how youth pitchers are being trained.

Smoltz shared some Greg Maddux stories and hinted at some more for one of the most disgusting teammates anyone could ever have.
