Doug O’Neill OK with changes to Triple Crown
Trainer Doug O’Neill joined the show to talk about California Chrome coming up just short of the Triple Crown.
O’Neill commented on the possibility that they’ll spread out the three triple crown races. He said that he’s OK with it: “Everyone knows the Kentucky Derby is the first Saturday in May. If you’re not in the business you don’t know when the Preakness or Belmont [are].”
O’Neill said that it was clear California Chrome was spent at the end, but he gutted it out to come close. “Like a true athlete he just kept coming, kept trying,” O’Neill said.
